Two homeschool language arts programs, compared on what actually decides the fit: what each one teaches, how your child feels about writing, and how much you'll teach.

These two are close: the differences are small, so price, grade range and what parents say below may decide it.

Parents like how thorough this is: 74 phonograms, 30 spelling rules and 80 grammar concepts taught in a systematic, multisensory way, sharing the same Orton-Gillingham lineage as Logic of English Foundations. Lessons can run long and cause burnout for some kids, and the per-component pricing (teacher's guide, workbook, flashcards) adds up.
Parents like how independent this is: self-instructional LightUnit workbooks with built-in spiral review mean a student works through most of it on their own once they're used to the format. Full-grade cost adds up across many units, the presentation is plain workbook pages, and content is Christian throughout.
Neither is better for every child. Logic of English Essentials is the stronger fit for grammar; spelling; finds it hard. Christian Light Language Arts (Grades 3-8) is the stronger fit for writing; i'd rather a video or script teach; christian worldview.
