Families drawn to a Waldorf-influenced, arts-and-nature-integrated approach describe Oak Meadow's coursebooks as developmentally sensitive and genuinely creative. It's pricier than many alternatives, the independent (non-enrolled) tier still asks a lot of parent involvement in early grades, and the fully enrolled/accredited tier costs significantly more.
Parents like the high-quality real-book selections and the natural, gentle approach to grammar through copywork, dictation and discussion rather than isolated drills. It's a real investment of daily reading and discussion time, formal grammar instruction is lighter-touch than a dedicated grammar program, and the price is on the higher end.
Neither is better for every child. Oak Meadow English is the stronger fit for relaxed, interest-led. BookShark Language Arts is the stronger fit for spelling; reluctant or avoids it; gentle, literature-based.
