Parents especially value Nessy for kids who've soured on reading instruction elsewhere: the Loch Ness Monster theme and game-based practice make children ask to play it, which is rare for a structured literacy program. It was developed at a dyslexia center and includes a built-in screening tool, and many families use it alongside another core program rather than alone.
Parents consistently point to the Orton-Gillingham method and full scripting as reasons a struggling or anxious reader finally clicks with this program. The trade-off shows up just as often: it asks for real one-on-one time every day, and the upfront cost for a full set of levels adds up.
Neither is better for every child. Nessy Reading and Spelling is the stronger fit for online; minimal; anxious about it. All About Reading is the stronger fit for not yet reading; multisensory (orton-gillingham); mostly offline.
