See my matchParents of struggling spellers point to the word-family, test-then-correct method (AVKO: Audio-Visual-Kinesthetic-Oral) as effective where word-list drilling failed, and it's very low prep since the daily test is the lesson. It's not grade-correlated, so placement is somewhat trial-and-error, and the repetitive daily-test format bores some kids.
